about

Payday at coal creek is a song written about the horrific disasters that closed the mines around 1902. The Coal Creek Company had workers at several mines around the Cumberland mountain region of Tennessee including the Fraterville, Briceville, and the Coal Creek mines. In 1902, a massive methane gas explosion occurred at Fraterville mines and killed all 216 men who went to work that day. Those who weren't killed instantly suffocated in the passages from a lack of air the next 12 hours. It is considered the worst mining disaster in Tennessee and one of the worst mining disasters in history. The explosion raised public awareness about the hazards of mining, and helped put into place stringent mining standards.

A portion of every album sale will be donated to the Coal Creek Watershed foundation that educates and improves those who work and live in the Coal Creek Watershed. www.coalcreekaml.com/index.htm

lyrics

Payday, oh payday
Payday at coal creek tomorrow 2x

Bye bye oh bye bye
Bye bye my honey I’m gone 2x

You’ll miss me you’ll miss me
You’ll miss me my honey i’m gone 2x

Easy rider, easy rider
Oh easy rider but you’ll ride that rail sometime 2x

I’m a poor boy I’m a poor boy
I”m a poor boy and a long way from home 2x

Payday payday
oh payday don’t come no more
payday don’t come no more
