Hilary wrote this song as an answer to the cheerful Sitting on top of the World bluegrass song.
The first verse conveys an eerie feeling from the sentiment of the lyrics not matching the energy of the music. The second verse gives a little more information that maybe the person singing is actually hiding themselves from the world, instead of sitting on top of it.
